About CreatePassword

A free, privacy-focused suite of client-side password and security tools — paired with honest, standards-aligned guidance. No fabricated experts, no fake reviews, no hype.

What CreatePassword is

CreatePassword is an independent project that gives anyone free access to professional-grade password and security utilities that run entirely inside their web browser. The core tools — a password generator, passphrase generator, strength checker, breach checker, hash generator, UUID generator, API key generator, and QR code generator — are designed so that generation and analysis happen on your device whenever possible, rather than on a remote server that would have to see the result.

Alongside the tools we publish practical guides on the blog and tutorials hub. The goal is simple: help people build better security habits with tools that are genuinely useful and explanations that are technically defensible.

Our privacy philosophy

We believe security tools should not require you to trade privacy for convenience. Where a task can be completed locally, we do it locally. The password, passphrase, UUID, API key, hash, and QR tools make no outbound network request to create their output — randomness comes from your browser's Web Crypto API (crypto.getRandomValues()), and the result exists only on your screen.

The one tool that does make a network request is the Password Breach Checker, and it is deliberately designed to reveal as little as possible. Your browser hashes the password with SHA-1 locally and sends only the first five hexadecimal characters of that hash to the Have I Been Pwned Pwned Passwords range API — never the plaintext password and never the full hash. This k-anonymity model means the remote service cannot reconstruct your password from the request alone. You can read the full technical detail on our security methodology page.

Local-first by default

Generation tools run in your browser. No generated secret is uploaded to createpassword.in for storage.

Minimal network exposure

Only the breach checker makes an outbound call, and it sends a five-character hash prefix only.

No account required

Core tools have no signup wall, no email capture, and no password vault on our servers.

Honest guidance

We avoid words like “uncrackable” and “guaranteed secure,” and align advice with current NIST principles.

I built CreatePassword.in so anyone can generate strong passwords and learn solid security habits without giving up privacy. The tools run in your browser; the guides stay practical and honest.

When this site references external standards, it links to the authoritative source — such as NIST SP 800-63, the OWASP cheat sheets, MDN Web Docs, or the official HIBP API documentation — rather than inventing citations. If a claim cannot be verified, it is not made.

What we are not

  • We are not a password manager. Use a dedicated manager (Bitwarden, 1Password, KeePass, etc.) to store credentials.
  • We are not a security audit or certification body. Our tools are utilities, not compliance attestations.
  • We do not guarantee any specific outcome — including approval by advertising or search programs. No tool can make a password “uncrackable.”
  • We do not operate an email/account breach lookup. The breach checker screens passwords against the Pwned Passwords corpus only.

How the tools stay free

The site is free to use. Like many free websites, some pages may load standard web analytics or advertising scripts. These scripts are not used to collect the passwords you type into generators, and generated secrets are never sent to our servers. If you want maximum session isolation, a private browsing window works well with all of the local tools. See our privacy policy for the full detail.

Our editorial principles

  • Accuracy over hype. We describe what the code actually does, not what sounds impressive.
  • Length and uniqueness first. Following NIST guidance, we emphasize long, unique passphrases and password managers over checkbox complexity rules.
  • Limitations stated plainly. Every tool page explains what it can and cannot do, including the breach checker’s “not found ≠ safe” caveat.
  • No fabricated authority. No fake experts, fake teams, fake reviews, or invented statistics.
